Ya rab koi Masooma1 zindaan may na tanha ho (twice)
God, I hope there is no child alone in a prison anywhere

Paband na ho aahein (twice)
May she never be prevented from mourning

Ronay pe na pehra ho
May she never be prevented by a guard from weeping

Ya rab koi Masooma zindaan may na tanha ho (twice)
God, I hope there is no child alone in a prison anywhere

Thi jis ko neend aati Shabbir2 ke seene par (twice)
The one who would only fall asleep on the chest of Hussain (A.S.)

Zindaan dare zindaan (twice)
A prison and the door of a prison

Uske liye kazaa ho
May these objects be something she never sees

Ya rab koi Masooma zindaan may na tanha ho (twice)
God, I hope there is no child alone in a prison anywhere

Zindaano se aati thi awaaz sisaknay ki (twice)
The prisons used to sob quietly (just like Sakina A.S.)

Jaise ke Sakina ko (twice), har zindaan ro raha ho
As if every prison were mourning Sakina A.S.

Ya rab koi Masooma zindaan may na tanha ho (twice)
God, I hope there is no child alone in a prison anywhere

Takraye na wo kyon kar zindaan ki diwaaro se (twice)
Who else would she complain to besides the walls of the prison?

Bhai se aur phuphi se (twice), jisko juda kiya ho
She has been separated from her brother and her aunt

Ya rab koi Masooma zindaan may na tanha ho (twice)
God, I hope there is no child alone in a prison anywhere

Zindaan may ay Najfi yaad aayi Sakina ki (twice)
The writer Najfi, addressing himself in 3rd person: I felt the pain of Sakina A.S. when I visited that prison

Dil roro keh raha hai (twice)
My heart weeps and says

Ab na ujaala ho
I don’t want to see daylight again (in solidarity with Sakina A.S. who passed away in that dark prison)

Ya rab koi Masooma zindaan may na tanha ho (twice)
God, I hope there is no child alone in a prison anywhere

Paband na ho aahein (twice)
May she not be prevented from mourning
