Amma Baar Baar - With English Translation

Background of the preface in the video below:
A caravan of women and children of The Prophet Muhammad’s (P.B.U.H.) household and Imam Zain-ul-Abideen A.S. (great grandson of The Prophet (P.B.U.H.)), made prisoners by Yazid and his army after the tragedy of Karbala, were forced by Yazid and his army to journey from Karbala to Kufa then Kufa to Damascus. When the caravan reached the outskirts of Damascus, Umar ibn Sa'ad sent a message to Yazid of their arrival. Yazid ordered that the caravan remain where it was until the morning. He wanted the people of Damascus to line the streets to look at the captives. In the meantime the streets through which the captives were to be marched were being decorated with flags and pennants. The masaib recited in the preface of the video below describes the scene when the caravan is forced to wait in the outskirts of Damascus in the middle of the night after journeying for 20 days.

Translation of the preface in the video below:
“The heads of those martyred by Yazid’s army were in front of the caravan, then 18 women of The Prophet’s (P.B.U.H.) household around their necks was tied a single sharp rope. It’s the middle of the night (in the outskirts of Damascus), Imam Zain-ul-Abideen A.S. is first, his beaten back faces Bibi Zainab S.A. (granddaughter of The Prophet (P.B.U.H.)), then Bibi Kulsoom S.A., then Bibi Ruqayya S.A., then Bibi Kubra S.A., then Bibi Farwa S.A., then Bibi Fizza S.A., then at the very end is 4 year old Bibi Sakina S.A. who was the shortest with the rope tied around her neck too she was unable to put both of her feet down on the ground due to the tightness of the rope around her neck, she was constantly lifting one leg up to rest the other leg then she would lift that leg and rest the first one."

Noha:

Zindaan-e-Shaam main jahan Bibi ka hai mazar
Inside the prison of Damascus, where the shrine of Bibi Sakina S.A. is located

Raton ko dheemi dheemi si aati hai ek pukaar
In the quiet of the night I can slowly hear a voice calling out

“Kanon se mere khoon x 2, abhi bhi tapakta hai
“Blood still drips from my ears

Amma baar baar x 3
Constantly, Mom

Amma baar baar gala mera dukhta hai Amma baar baar x 2
Mom, my neck still hurts

Uth ti hai jubb bhi aap x 2, mera saans rukta hai
I still can’t breathe when they make you get up

Amma baar baar
Constantly, Mom

Amma baar baar gala mera dukhta hai Amma baar baar x 2
Mom, my neck still hurts

Soie nahi hun sham-e-ghariba1 ke baad mein
I haven’t slept since nightfall on 10th of Moharram1

Ab kya jiyungi shaam ke zindaan ke baad mein
How will I survive this prison in Damascus?

Be aas ab hun shah e shaheeda ke baad mein
I have no hope after my Father (Imam Hussain A.S.) was killed

Saya ajal ka Amma mere sath chalta hai
The shadow of death accompanies me

Amma baar baar
Constantly, Mom

Amma baar baar gala mera dukhta hai Amma baar baar x 2
Mom, my neck still hurts

Kano ka khoon aankhon ke asun se mil gaya
Blood from my ears and tears from my eyes merge

Har zakhm phool ban ke badan pe hay khil gaya
My wounds have scabbed

Baba ko dhoond laao ke sene se dil gaya
Find my Father my heart has departed

Be jaan mere jism mein kyun dil dhadakta hai
Why does my heart palpitate in my lifeless body?

Amma baar baar
Constantly, Mom

Amma baar baar gala mera dukhta hai Amma baar baar x 2
Mom, my neck still hurts

Ay Amma jub se Baba se main door ho gai
Mom, ever since my Father was killed

Yeh zindagi mere liye nasoor ho gai
This life has become a chronic pain for me

Par kya karu naseeb se majboor ho gai
My circumstances were shaped in such a way

Hijr e padar se seene me ek dard uthta hai
Separation from my Father has given me heartache

Amma baar baar
Constantly, Mom

Amma baar baar gala mera dukhta hai Amma baar baar x 2
Mom, my neck still hurts

Kanten padhe hai halq mein aai Amma pyas se
My throat is parched Mom

Darti hun jhonka guzre hawa ka jo pass se
I get scared whenever a waft passes by me

Neend urh gai hai aankhon se khaufo hiras se
The fears and sorrows keep me up at night

Rone pe mere shimr e laeen kyun jhirak ta hai
Why does shimr threaten me when I cry?

Amma baar baar
Constantly, Mom

Amma baar baar gala mera dukhta hai Amma baar baar x 2
Mom, my neck still hurts

Asghar ke baad pani piyun mai nahi nahi
I will never drink water again after I watched Asghar (A.S.) was killed while thirsty

Ammu ke baad zinda rahu mai nahi nahi
I won’t survive much longer without my Uncle (Abbas A.S.)

Faryad kutch shaqi se karu mai nahi nahi
I won’t complain to the tyrants

Pani me ab se chehre e Asghar jhalakta hai
I see Asghar’s (A.S.) face when I look at water

Amma baar baar
Constantly, Mom

Amma baar baar gala mera dukhta hai Amma baar baar x 2
Mom, my neck still hurts

Lagta hai kaid-e-jaan se rehaie kareeb hai
I can sense my release from this prison is near

Aai Amma jaan-o-tan se rehaie kareeb hai
My release from this body is near

Ab maut mujh ko kabr ke laaie kareeb hai
Death has brought me close to my grave now

Daman to jhal chuka hai mera dil sulaghta hai
My hem was burnt, my heart still smoulders

Amma baar baar
Constantly, Mom

Amma baar baar gala mera dukhta hai Amma baar baar x 2
Mom, my neck still hurts

Kaunain me yeah kaisa hai kanoon poochyay
What law of the universe is this?

Marne ke baad mujhko rehaie nahi milay
I wasn’t even freed from this prison after passing away

Yeh kaisi kaid hai ke lahad bhi yahin bane
Even my lifeless body was a captive, I was buried inside the prison

Kaidi kabhi to kaid se ghar ko palat ta hai
Usually prisoners go home or are at least buried outside the prison

Amma baar baar
Constantly, Mom

Amma baar baar gala mera dukhta hai Amma baar baar x 2”
Mom, my neck still hurts”
