Aa Ay Merey Hussain - With English Translation

Ashur ka suraj hay, kayamat ki ghari hay
The sun of Ashura has risen, the apocalypse is here

Bhaye ka, galaa kat-ta, bahan dekh rahi hay
A brother's throat is being cut while his sister watches

Maqtal me kisi maa ki, sadaa goonj rahi hay
In the slaughter fields, a mother's cry echoes

Aa aey mere Hussain meri goad may aa jaa
Come my Hussain, rest your head in my lap

Aa ja, mere bache, meri aaghosh may aa ja
Come my son, come into my embrace

Mere liye ay laal tu Asghar ki tarha hai,
For me, my son, you are like Asghar (Hussain's 6 month old son martyred in Karbala)

Godi meri gehwaara hay bistar ki tarha hai,
My lap is like a cradle, it is a restful place

Is dhoop may daman mera chadar ki tarha hai,
In this burning sun, my cloak is like a cover

Aa aey mere Hussain meri goad may aa jaa
Come my Hussain, rest your head in my lap

Aa ja, mere bache, meri aaghosh may aa ja
Come my son, come into my embrace

Main maa hu mera dil, nahi seenay may sambhalta,
I am a mother, my heart can't bear to see you like this

Nazuk ye badan tera ye jalta huwa sehra,
My delicate son is on the burning sand of the desert,

Aur is may sitam ye, hai ke tu rehgaya pyaasa,
And the worst tragedy is that you have been left thirsty

Aa aey mere Hussain meri goad may aa jaa
Come my Hussain, rest your head in my lap

Aa ja, mere bache, meri aaghosh may aa ja
Come my son, come into my embrace

Main goad may layloon, tujhe seeney se lagaa loon,
Let me take you into my lap, let me hug you,

Seeney pe Sakina ki tarha tujko sulaa loon,
You can sleep in my embrace the way the way Sakina sleeps in your embrace

Seeney ke tere teer main palko se nikaloon,
Let me remove the arrows from your chest so gently as if I took them out with my eyelashes

Aa aey mere Hussain meri goad may aa jaa
Come my Hussain, rest your head in my lap

Aa ja, mere bache, meri aaghosh may aa ja
Come my son, come into my embrace

Aakar mere zaanu pe jo so jaa te they beta,
The way you used to come and sleep on my shoulder my son,

Chakki ki mushakkat ke bhi pehlu nahi badlaa,
Even through tough times you supported your mother

Ab kaise tujhe chor du maqtal may akela,
So how could I leave you alone in your place of execution?

Aa aey mere Hussain meri goad may aa jaa
Come my Hussain, rest your head in my lap

Aa ja, mere bache, meri aaghosh may aa ja
Come my son, come into my embrace

Teri bhi to awlad hai tu bhi to padar hai,
You too have children, you're a father as well

Awlad ka ghum kya hai yeh tujko bhi khabar hai,
You too know what is the grief of a parent

Ghum bachche ka sehjaye ye kis maa ka jigar hai,
Which mother has the heart to absorb and witness their children being oppressed?

Aa aey mere Hussain meri goad may aa jaa
Come my Hussain, rest your head in my lap

Aa ja, mere bache, meri aaghosh may aa ja
Come my son, come into my embrace

Tu lait gaya thak ke tu is jalti zamin par,
You have laid down exhausted on this burning ground,

Ye kiska lahu tu nay malaa roohe hasii par,
Whose blood have you wiped on your face? (Ali Asghar)

Mat khakh pe so laal teri maa hai yaheen par,
Don't sleep on the ground, your Mother is here

Aa aey mere Hussain meri goad may aa jaa
Come my Hussain, rest your head in my lap

Aa ja, mere bache, meri aaghosh may aa ja
Come my son, come into my embrace

Jo dil pe tere guzri main sub dekhrahi thi,
I saw everything you went through,

Har laash uthane main terey saath gayi thi,
I was with you every time you would retrieve a fallen martyr of your camp,

Ab baat wo kehti tujo bachpan me kahi thi,
Now I'm repeating a phrase I used to say to you in your childhood.

Aa aey mere Hussain meri goad may aa jaa
Come my Hussain, rest your head in my lap

Aa ja, mere bache, meri aaghosh may aa ja
Come my son, come into my embrace

Nauhe may bayaan kaise kare sarwar-o-rehaan
How can Nadeem Sarwar and Rehaan Azmi narrate in an elegy...

Pad sakta nahi koi bhi yeh dard ka quraan
Nobody can fully do justice with their recitation of those tragedies

Maa kehti thi rehjaaye na dil may mere armaan
A Mother used to say to her son: "Don't leave my wish unfulfilled"

Aa aey mere Hussain meri goad may aa jaa
Come my Hussain, rest your head in my lap

Aa ja, mere bache, meri aaghosh may aa ja
Come my son, come into my embrace

Poet/Shayar: Rehaan Azmi
Reciter/Nohakhwan: Nadeem Sarwar
