Sakina Ko Kyon Chor Kar Ja Rahay Hain - With English Translation

Translator's Note: When the people of Damascus came to learn about 4/5 year old Sakina (SA) who passed away in yazid's dungeon from fatigue, thirst, cold, and starvation, the city began to talk openly about yazid's cruelty. yazid fearing the people might rise against him, was now anxious to get rid of the prisoners (The Prophet's SAW Family). Bibi Zainab (SA), the other ladies of The Prophet's (SAW) family, and the ladies of Damascus mourned the tragedies for 7 days. After which The Prophet's (SAW) Family made preparations to travel to Karbala before going home to Madina. This marsiya describes one scene as The Prophet's (SAW) Family is leaving Damascus.

Throughout our journey (from Karbala to Kufa, then Kufa to Damascus) I noticed, whenever water was made available to her

Toh Khud Apne Hisse Ka Paani Hamesha, Giraati Thi Yeh Aap Ki Beriyon Par,
She Always took Her meagre share Of Water, And Poured It On The Chains digging into your flesh

Mayassar Hai Ab Hamko Paani Toh Pyaasa, Sakina Ko Kyun Chhor Kar Jaa Rahe Hai
Now that we have access to water, Why Are We Leaving Sakina Here?

Bowing Her Head She Is Crying, She is weeping at the news of our release (referring to Rubab)

Tarapti Hai Daadi Rubab Aise Baba, Ke Amma Bhi Thaame Jigar Rorahi Hai,
Grandmother Rubab is having sobbing spasms, Mother is crying uncontrollably

Bataayenge Kya Ghar Unhone Ye Puchha, Sakina Ko Kyun Chhor Kar Jaa Rahe Hai
What will we tell the people of our House? Why Are We Leaving Sakina Here?

Ke Meri Nazar Mai Woh Ghar Ghar Nahi Hai, Nazar Jis Mai Aaye Na Mujhko Sakina,
In My Eyes Our House Would Not Be A Home, If Sakina Is Not Present"

Na Iss Ke Bina Phir Basega Madina, Sakina Ko Kyun Chhor Kar Jaa Rahe Hai

Sada Har Sitam Ham Ne Jhelaa Hai Milkar, Toh Phir Kyun Na Yeh Mere Dil Ki Sadaa Ho,
We always bore oppression together, hence my heart yearns

Mujhe Bhi Yahin Chhorna Ay Baba, Sakina Ko Kyun Chhor Kar Jaa Rahe Hai

Sakina Ki Turbat Ko Sine Lagaaye, Padar Se Yeh Kehne Lage Roke Baqir,
Baqir wrapped his arms around Sakina's Grave, and Wept To His Father
