Shabbir Agar Teri - With English Translation

Na dil rota na gham hota na aisa kahin matam hota
Neither hearts would cry, nor would we feel grief, nor would we do matam

Shabbir agar teri azadari na hoti
Hussain (AS), if we didn't mourn you

Mazloom ki duniya mai tarafdaari na hoti
The oppressed of the world would have no supporters

Shabbir agar teri azadari na hoti
If we didn't mourn you Hussain (AS)

Shabbir ka maqsad jo samajh leta zamana
If the world had understood Hussain's (AS) message

Quran ko samajhne may ye dushwari na hoti
They wouldn't have had difficulty understanding the Quran

Shabbir agar teri azadari na hoti
If we didn't mourn you Hussain (AS)

Kya fayeda aankhon ka reh jaata zara socho
What good would these eyes be?

In aankhon may maula ki jo gham-khwari na hoti
If these eyes couldn't console Hussain (AS)

Shabbir agar teri azadari na hoti
If we didn't mourn you Hussain (AS)

Shabbir ke rozay pe kuch roz jo rehte
If you had ever stayed at Hussain's (AS) shrine

Tum ko kabhi jannat ki talab-gari na hoti
You would never yearn for heaven

Shabbir agar teri azadari na hoti
If we didn't mourn you Hussain (AS)

Do roz bhi jannat may rehna hamay mushkil tha
It would be difficult for us to get into heaven

Zahra tere bachon ki jo sardari na hoti
If Fatima (SA), your children didn't have mastery of heaven

Shabbir agar teri azadari na hoti
If we didn't mourn you Hussain (AS)

Ghazi tere jaisa jo alamdar na hota
Abbas (AS), if there hadn't been a standard-bearer like you

Dunya may Alam hote Alamdari na hoti
The world would have Alams but no one to give them any meaning

Shabbir agar teri azadari na hoti
If we didn't mourn you Hussain (AS)

Sharminda Sakina se agar hota na pani
If water hadn't been shy of Sakina (SA)

Yeh rasm sabilo ki kabhi jaari na hoti
The tradition of setting up water centres during the month of Moharram to commemorate the tragedy of Karbala would never occur

Shabbir agar teri azadari na hoti
If we didn't mourn you Hussain (AS)

Namoos-e-Muhammad ko jo pehchanti dunya
If the world had only been familiar with the dignity of Muhammad (SAW)

Zainab ke khule sar pe ye sang baari na hoti
Stones would not have been thrown onto Zainab's (SA) hijabless head

Shabbir agar teri azadari na hoti
If we didn't mourn you Hussain (AS)

Jannat may qadam rakhte nahi Sarwaro-o-Rehan
Poets talking about themselves:
Rehan Azmi and Nadeem Sarwar only go where they can perform azadari, we wouldn't even go to heaven if they didn't allow azadari there[1]

Jannat may jo maula ki azadari na hoti
We yearn for azadari more than even heaven[1]

Shabbir agar teri azadari na hoti
If we didn't mourn you Hussain (AS)

Translator's Commentary:

[1] - These two lines of poetry are to say that the poets don't want to live in a place where they would be prevented from performing azadari. They would give up the luxuries of any land that prevented azadari.

Azadari would never be banned in heaven. Hassan (AS) and Hussain (AS) are the Masters of Heaven. The 12th Imam Mahdi (AS) mourns over Karbala each and every single day, once in the morning and once in the evening.
